5 Surefire Ways to Stop Thinking Your Paycheck is Never Enough

Below is an excerpt from this article I found. Read on, I'm sure we can learn a thing or two from this:
  1. Comparing Yourself to Others

A lady who got a windfall of $10 million (after taxes) in an interview with CNBC admitted that she felt poor! The reason was simple – she was comparing herself to the super rich. While she had $10 million dollars, she was wondering why she couldn’t buy that $45 million dollar loft overlooking Central Park in Manhattan. She wanted everything, so it made sense that she was disappointed!

As soon as you reach the top of a mountain, you will see that there are other mountains that are higher! In fact, some mountains will seem higher even if they are not! Stop comparing yourself to others!

  2. Jumping Your Lifestyle Ahead of Schedule

Affordability is different for people earning $10k, $50k, $100k, $250k, $1 million, $50 million and so on a year. If your salary is $50k annually but you try to live the $100k lifestyle, your paycheck will never be enough! If you want to get ahead, the opposite (living the $50k lifestyle even if you are earning $100k) is more appropriate!

  3. Measure What You Have and not What is Missing

I have a espresso machine that pours a set amount of water into the cup. One day, I used a huge mug and it seemed like there was no coffee in there! The coffee obviously didn’t change, but the container (our expectation) did. It seems obvious that the only way to measure how much we have is by looking at the actual volume of coffee but like many, I looked at how empty the mug was. Counter-intuitive and counterproductive!

Learn to appreciate what you have accomplished and what you possess, not what you want to get because it’s never enough!

  4. Periodically Cut Off Your Expenses

I’m not talking about cutting off your unnecessary expenses like you’ve read before but actually anything that is not strictly for survival purposes! Periodically cut off your cell phone or your TV bill for a few weeks and see if you miss it. Coffee habits? Movie Thursdays? Stop them and see what happens! Not only will this force you to relearn what’s really “necessary”, it will help you inject variety into your life!

Obviously, common sense is required here when determining what’s necessary for survival. Taping up the air conditioning panel is so you can’t turn it on might be worth it but cutting the utility bill is not. Carpooling to work with your spouse is good to try but selling your car when you have no means to get to work is not. Use your judgment but stretch the bare minimum and you might be surprise!

  5. Search for Alternatives

You know what? There is always a less expensive option for everything that we do. With the ease of information gathering brought on by the Internet, there is really no excuses not to spend some time researching to see if you can find a better alternative. Like pasta? Try the store brand spaghetti. Watch movies? Try Redbox. Can’t live without TV? Try HDTV antennas or watching them on the Internet!

7 Steps to Achieve Your Dreams @ Ron Edmondson

I love and encourage dreaming, because I think it’s healthy emotionally and the process helps us accomplish great things personally and for God. We are told we serve a big, creative God, whose thoughts will always be bigger and better than ours, so dreaming should be natural to believers. Dreaming stretches the vision of churches and organizations, it fuels creativity, and many great opportunities develop first as a dream.  (I written previously about the subject of dreams HERE.)

The reality is that more people have dreams than attain them. Perhaps you have dreams you have yet to accomplish. I certainly do. One reason dreams never come true is that we don’t have a system in place to work towards them. I love to be an encourager for people with great dreams, so with that in mind, here are some steps to help you move towards reaching your dreams:

Identify your dream – This is where you list specifically what the dream would look like. Obviously it needs to be attainable, but don’t be afraid for it to be a stretch either. For example, suppose your dream is to be to be an author. That’s a dream you can accomplish, but it may not be attainable to be the next Max Lucado.

Make an action plan – Write down specific action steps you can take towards attaining your goal. (The writing down part is important) Sticking with the the idea of being an author, perhaps you could start with a blog for which you write post regularly to build the discipline of writing. Then move to outlining chapters. Then you might set aside a few hours a week to actually write the book. Record realistic dates to begin/complete each step.

Develop accountability - Most of us work harder when we know someone is going to challenge us to do so. Consider the success of programs like Weight Watchers. Accountability works, so share your plan of action with a few people who will continue to challenge you to completion.

Share the load - Even though it is your dream, the best ideas are accomplished when people work together towards a common vision. Don’t be afraid to invite others to help you accomplish your dream as needed. (Read my encouragement to give your vision away HERE.)

Take a risk - If you really want to succeed, you must be willing to risk failure. Every great dream has an element of risk involved and the ones who achieve their dreams are the ones wiling to assume the risk.

Stay consistent – If you want to achieve your dreams, you will have to keep at the task, even during the set backs. Push yourself to complete scheduled action steps even on days you may not want to do anything. These is how habits are developed. Many give up too soon, often just before the tipping point towards success occurs. Unless you know it’s time to try another dream, stay consistent with the one in front of you.

Get started now – The longer you wait, the more you delay achievement and the less likely you are to begin. If you know the dream is worth achieving, if you are confident it’s a God-honoring, morally right, and worthy dream, then start today!

What is one dream you have yet to attain? Why not take one meaningful step to get started today?

7 Essentials for Personal Success in Today's World @ Ron Edmondson

In case you haven’t been keeping up, the world has changed. To be successful today in any profession takes new tools and skills. I am asked frequently by young leaders what advice I have for those just starting their career. Obviously, if you are a believer desiring to do ministry (which describes many of my readers) then you first need to work through your relationship with Christ to be obedient to God’s call on your life, but even Christian leaders need to think how best to succeed in a changing world.

Here are some “must haves” I would advise young leaders to seek to possess in order to achieve personal success:

Personal branding – I have always kept my resume up-to-date and encouraged others I work with to do the same, but today requires far more than a resume. Today it is easy and therefore important to develop your own identity…your own brand. (I wrote a post about personal branding HERE.)

Connectedness – Social media is not an option, anymore. The use of Twitter, Facebook, blogging and other social media sites is the way networks are built these days. People once traded email addresses to build professional relationships. Now they trade social mediums.

Action plan – You will never reach your dreams without a plan. Those who achieve great things develop a system to implement their ideas. This is not new to today’s world, but it is perhaps even more important now. (Read a post about achieving your dreams HERE.)

Self-initiative - No one is going to script life for you. The days when the organization writes the rules for you are over. The ones who achieve success today are those who are willing to take the initiative to do something without anyone forcing them to do so.

Original thought – Uniqueness sets you apart from the crowd and today that’s more important than ever. There are thousands of ideas in the world and yours is just one of them, but you better have some of your own.

Team spirit - Most healthy environments these days frown on lone rangers. Be willing to humbly submit to others and participate in a team environment. Be likable and work well with others. Collaboration is a key function of today’s successful organizations.

Flexibility – Change is the only guarantee in all this. Today’s leader must remain flexible to a changing environment and wiling to adapt quickly as necessary.

A Spark of Inspiration

Meandering wide-eyed wanderment: A Spark of Inspiration:
There are times in your life that you suddenly stop and wonder what the hell it is you are doing with your life. I don't think I could say it any better than Ayn Rand:

"Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle.
The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours."

The Possibility of Failure

It's true what they say that less talk, less mistakes.  It was in one of those moments when I just couldn't keep my mouth shut that I found myself suddenly given the co-responsibility of keeping up this blog.  I have my reasons for hesitating, the same reasons I had when I first started my own blog.

Is this the face of someone you would trust with responsibilities?

But it is also true what they say that when you give yourself permission to fail then you also give yourself permission to achieve.  So here's to us possibly failing but more importantly, possibly achieving.

Let's talk about Z

Souvenir programme of the event

WORLD, DON'T JUDGE US!

We are just being supportive to our dear teammate, Glai.

In response to Glai's unrelenting pursuit as the saleslady of the year, we shell out Php300 each and drove all the way down to Alabang to see....wait for it...Zac Efron in his debut as the drama prince of Hollywood.

Kidding aside, we were sincerely suppportive to the cause -- all proceeds will go to Joseph Gualadani School for the Hearing Impaired. That's one point for community service!

Let's Start Blogging!!!

Yey! Now we have our very own venue where we could share our thoughts, ideas, or what-nots! Our posts don't have to be anything fancy, just make sure they're appropriate and for everyone's eyes to see and read ;) So, what are you waiting for? Let that creative juice flow and let's start blogging!!!
